Closet Doors Don't Have To Be Boring

Whether you're remodeling or building from scratch, closet doors should not be the last consideration on your decorating list. The fact is these doors can make as much of a design statement as any other door in your home and perhaps even more.

sliding closet door track

Some people prefer basic blank doors to open the entries and exits to every room in their homes, their closets, too. But, when these are used for closet doors, the effect can be very bland and boring unless the surrounding decorating scheme calls for something neutral to tone it down or blend in.

SLIDING CLOSET

Let's consider some of the other options beyond plain, blank wooden doors for use on your closet. You're really not limited to a single choice. The fact is doors for closets can help create an overall decorating look that makes rooms stand out as extraordinary.

Louvered closet doors are the choice many homeowners make for their own closets. Offering more of a design for the eye to take in than a regular blank door, louvered doors are another common choice for closets. These look beautiful, but do come with one downfall. These doors can be a little tricky to clean.

Panel doors can range from ordinary, straight wood, to those that have designs cut in. They can even include recessed panels and a combination of panels and louvers. There are no real downfalls to these doors.

Mirror closet doors can create a great illusion effect while making a beautiful statement beyond ordinary wood. These doors will make a room appear to be larger than it is and will stand out from regular wooden doors. The only downfall with mirrors is the cleaning required. They do attract fingerprints.

Fabric doors can be spectacular decorator statements in and of themselves. Depending on where they're purchased, they can even be customized to take on any design a homeowner might require. Keeping these clean will require a bit of work, but it can be worth it for the visual effect these doors have. This is one of the best options for bringing a door into an overall room's design.

There are a host of other options when it comes to closet doors. They can be regular hinge construction, bi-fold or even pocket in their hanging mechanism. Each brings its own style options to the table.

If you need to choose closet doors to compliment a remodel or for new construction, take care in making the choice. These doors don't have to be boring.

Wire Shelving Will Organize Your Closets

Nobody ever complains about too much closet space. Not only are closets helpful in organizing our possessions, they can help a room, and a home look better because so much stuff can be put away instead of left out to give a look of clutter. Closets can come in different shapes and many sizes, such as walk in closets. If you really want to get the most use out of your closets, you should consider closet organizers.

sliding closet doors mirror

Most closets have doors. Doors are important in closets, so most people prefer to have them. They keep everything out of sight, and can even be considered a part of the decoration of the room, such as when they are covered with a mirror,or have an interesting pattern such as raised panels. When the closet door is closed, all of the potential mess is out of sight of your guests.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS

In areas where you do not have a lot of room for traditional doors that swing open, the best solution is folding doors. These are very handy since they give you all of the advantages of swinging doors, but take up half of the room when they are opened. The rails that come with folding closet doors should be of good quality so that the door can open and close easily and smoothly. If you install a light inside the closet, you can hook it up so that the light goes on automatically when you open the folding doors. This is a very handy feature when you need to find something in hate back of a closet.

Sliding doors also work well to allow you extra space in the room. If the walls allow for it, it is really good to have sliding doors that can slide into the adjoining wall. These types of doors are called "pocket" doors, since they slide into a pocket in the wall. For additional ease of use, you may even consider install a motor that could open and close the sliding doors automatically.

If your room is small, a great idea that many decorators recommend is to cover your closet door with a mirror. This serves a dual purpose, since you will have a mirror when you are getting dressed, and the mirror will make the room appear larger. A mirror such as this can be installed on just about any closet door, and can either be half or full.

Using Contemporary Closet Doors As Dividers For Lofts

The sleek smooth design of contemporary closet doors can give your room a whole new look. The contemporary design is one of little detail with a modern flare. Many older doors have smooth lines but are detailed more than what the contemporary closet doors are. Contemporary designs are used as dividers, for closets, windows and as an organizer to help organize large spaces. They can be louvered, bifold, sliding, pocket or have frosted glass. They are generally used for the interior of a home but can be used in an attached garage for doors for furnace and water heater closets.

white sliding closet doors

Many of the contemporary closet doors are louvered or are covered in mirror. Although louvered doors have a great deal of detail, they are clean sleek lines which make them more modern than many of the older louvered doors. You can break up some of the simplicity of these doors with simple hardware such as round door knobs. Some of the contemporary closet door systems include pockets inside the wall that allow the doors to be slid out of the way when they are not in use. They can also serve as windows to your closet with frosted glass in them.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS

If you are looking to organize a large space such as a loft, you can also use contemporary closet doors as a divider so you are actually splitting up one large area into several small ones. In this case you are using them as an organizer. Lots of condominiums and apartments are utilizing every inch of space they have by designing them with lofts. This leaves a lot of space that is wasted in terms of living space. With a divider separating a loft area into at least two smaller ones, you can utilize the space more efficiently.

It is easy to repair contemporary closet doors too. Many have straight line panes of frosted glass which can easily be replaced. If you have doors that are a solid mirror, these too are easy to replace. To repair louvered contemporary closet doors, you must purchase an entire new door. It is virtually impossible to repair one louver because they are all set in a frame. Bifold doors also must be replaced if repairs need to be made. One of the best door systems are for a walk in closet. These are usually sliding doors that slide simply to one side. These save room because you don't have to worry about having room to swing open the door and they allow you full access to the doorway.

Whether you are changing hardware on existing contemporary closet doors, using them as dividers or an organizer, you will love the way they make your room look. Most are suitable for walk in closets, and interior purposes but they can be used for other purposes. Most are available at your local home supply depot. Your local home supply depot can help you determine which style of contemporary closet doors are best for your needs and help with dimensions of the doorway.

Sliding Closet Doors Are Space Savers

Sliding closet doors provide you with at least two benefits: you solve space problems and you add a functional and at the same time decorative item into your room.

bypass sliding closet doors for bedrooms

Advantages and Disadvantages

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS FOR BEDROOMS

With sliding doors, you can put furniture right next to your closet without preventing you from opening your closet because the doors do not need to swing into the room when you open them.

Like other types of closet doors, you can choose door models so that they function also as part of your overall interior decor. Various types of decorative finishes are available, including doors that use glass, mirror or louver as their main part.

Sliding closet doors are also known as bypass doors in the door manufacturing industry because the doors slide past each other when you open or close them.

There are however at least two disadvantages of sliding closet doors. You cannot access your closet fully at one time because the closet doors occupy half of the total door opening when you slide one. There are also storage systems or closet organizers that cannot function fully with sliding doors because they need the full width of the closet to be available.

To keep your sliding closet doors functioning properly, regularly check the caster and track to make sure they are in correct position and good working condition.

Different Designs and Materials

Of course, one of the main concerns of people interested in sliding doors is choosing which style will complement their home's current theme. When it comes to material, you can choose from wood, metal or glass. Naturally, you can expect the glass doors to be outfitted with some kind of metal or wooden frames. As for design, there are the ever popular louvered, mirrored and French closet doors. The choice will depend on two things: your budget and style preference.

Although online shopping offers you a world of convenience, you should still be very patient when it comes to finding the best deals. You should not be enticed by offers of discounts especially if you are compromising quality. As a savvy consumer, you must learn how to shop and compare prices, features and other important factors before making the ultimate decision to buy.

Nonetheless, there are now lots of sliding closet doors in the market, so you can choose what fits your room. Among the most popular these days are those designed by Sliding Door Co., Ramtrack, and Interior Door Replacement Co. Check these manufacturers' websites to see what they are offering.

Leading Benefits of Installing Sliding Closet Doors

The popular term "sliding doors" is almost a misnomer since most such as openings are single- rather than double-door. That is, one door panel is fixed while another moves sideways. Common examples are sliding closet doors, screen doors and shower doors. In a typical sliding doorway, the panels travel through steel rollers running along a track hidden from view. This track and roller system is held in place by a door frame that is often made from steel, the strongest variety, but may be PVC, aluminum or wood.

sliding closet door bottom guide

When deciding how to install sliding closet doors, there are two general types to choose from - top hung or bottom rolling. The panels are built to hang from an overhead trolley in a top hung system, and since the trolley hangers bear the entire weight, it is easier to move the door. However, there is a maximum weight that a top track can carry. Panels are made to rest on roller wheels running on a foot track in a bottom rolling system. It is not as easy to glide over the door but this type can accommodate weightier panels.

SLIDING CLOSET

A popular method of installing a sliding wardrobe entry is a pocket door, in which the moving panel is designed to disappear into an extraneous wall compartment. Utility rooms, dens, toilets, bathrooms, study rooms and other rooms with bypass doors often use pocket doors. They provide floor space more than conventional closet entries that open forward. The same space-saving principle applies, in fact, to Japanese shoji screen doors wherein a latticed screen frame holds one sliding panel, usually made with a white paper.

Not only sliding closet doors have efficient use of space but also their wider counterpart, double sliding doors such as in walk-in closets. These are widely used for openings to outdoor parts of the home like a balcony, patio, lanai and swimming pool deck, even the backyard and garden. Another use is for interior sanctuaries like office rooms and sitting rooms, especially those fashioned after old Victorian houses. It is not so many space economies that are the real motivation for the wider versions but architectural styling.

Sliding Closet Doors Save Precious Space

Floor area in any room is important. Available space can dictate how comfortable a room can be. It can also limit options in decorating. From very large rooms to the smaller apartment-style singles, sliding closet doors are guaranteed space savers.

sliding closet doors for bedrooms

By definition, closets are small enclosed spaces used for general storage or hanging clothes. Noting the latter, closets are typically found within a dresser or in the room itself. Either way, closets with sliding doors save frontal space which is a big factor in how you space your furniture.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS FOR BEDROOMS

Because of the way a sliding door operates, it eliminates the need for door-sway room. A typical swaying door opens inside or outside (depending on your vantage point), and you automatically need a minimum adjacent space same to that of the width of the door. If not, you end up rendering the door useless by not being able to fully-open it or you have a hard time accessing the insides.

Think of a closet situated beside a bed like in most rooms. If you do not have enough space between the bed and the door, you will bump the side of the bed every time you open the closet door. Think about how hard it is to get clothes like that. With the same space or less, you would have no problems with a sliding door.

A closet with a sliding door is not without any disadvantages. The main disadvantage associated with sliding doors is not being able to expose the whole closet. A sliding door can only expose a maximum of half the closet's opening. A sliding door would obviously need to go somewhere when slid; it also needs rails which are located on top and at the bottom-from where it closes to where opens.

The only way to fully-open a closet made in such a way is to make the doors "disappear" inside an adjacent wall. Although doable, this design is significantly more expensive and requires some custom building.

The disadvantage presented above can easily be overcome if you think space is more important than closet-opening. A half-open sliding-door closet is easier to access than a half-open hinged-door closet. Dressing up usually takes place in front on the closet which makes frontal room even more important. Besides, most items stored inside a closet are small items and do not need much space when taken out.

If you have a room setup that has limited space or if you have planned a layout where furniture spacing is important, a sliding closet door is your best choice.

Sliding Closet Doors Save Precious Space

As mentioned above, dressing up normally takes place in front of the closet. Be more efficient by using sliding mirrored closet doors. Visit our site for more details. http://slidingmirroredclosetdoors.info/.

Save Money by Creating Modern Contemporary Closet Doors

When it comes to radically changing a room's décor, outside of perhaps the kitchen, the bedroom is the place where most decorative changes happen. When changing a room's décor there are many things that you will need to do in order to make the rooms new design a raving success. Closet doors, while often overlooked, are essential to any bedroom's décor. It is not because they are the one item that has so much potential to look and reflect you new design scheme as much as the fact that closet doors are perhaps on of the largest features in a room. That means if your design is a more modern approach, ignoring the closet doors will leave a huge item in the room untouched and in many cases, this can completely ruin any hopes you may have had for a complete and total redecoration. Many people feel that a closet door is just a door and there is nothing to be done about them. However, with a little time and planning you can have contemporary closet doors to fit your contemporary design to a tee.

wood sliding closet doors

When it comes to contemporary closet doors there are several different options that you have. In some cases, you can actively search out more modern designed doors. While there are plenty of new designs to fit almost any decorative tastes, these doors can get a little pricey. That is why the most popular option is to repurpose your old and often bland door into something unmistakably new. This can be done in several different ways. You can do a faux finish on an existing door. You can add molding or you can even add mirrored panels as well. If you find yourself in need of a new door, you can really start with a blank canvas as it were. Not only can you turn a standard wood sliding, bifolding or panel door into something spectacular without breaking your budget to do so.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS

The trick to decorating a room in a modern style is the make the most of the money you have to spend. A closet door is an important feature to any new bedroom design, but why spend more money on them then you have to. Bigger ticket items like furniture will require a larger portion of any remodeling budget and taking away money from those big-ticket items in order to spend a ton of cash on contemporary doors is silly when with a little work, you can create one yourself. An expensive looking door does not have to be expensive and with a little creativity and a little work in the process, you can have a closet door that looks expensive but that does not break the decorating budget.

Sliding Closet Doors - Add More Space and Style

If you are contemplating custom closets, then sliding doors are an important point for you to consider. Sliding doors are different from the conventional system of hinged doors. The prime advantage of sliding closet doors is that they can save valuable floor space while opening or closing the doors. The inconvenience of shifting the furniture every time you open or close a closet no longer exists if the sliding closet doors are incorporated in your custom closet design.

sliding closet doors for bedrooms

The sliding doors can be made with a variety of common materials like wood, plywood or glass. In some designs you can also have 'mirror' panels which will enhance the virtual space in the room. The sliding doors come in three custom closet designs. The multi panel doors, the by-pass doors, and the bi-fold doors are the three types of sliding doors that are available. To know what style will best fit your storage requirements, a foreknowledge of the different features of the different varieties is necessary. Sliding closet doors can add style and space to any room, wherever there is a closet.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS FOR BEDROOMS

Multifold doors are made of more than two similar panels of the door material. The panels of such sliding closet doors are inter-hinged to one another on their longest edges and function like an accordion with louvers. When the last panel is pulled, all the other panels pass over one another and get stacked in a corner, providing the most open space when fully opened. Multifold panels are best used when you are looking for smaller or medium sized custom closet option. The usual size range of the panels are from 10 to 40 inches per panel. When closed they resemble a series of vertical blinds.

Bypass closet doors are made up of only two panels. The panels of such sliding closet doors are placed in a track one along the other, with their flat surfaces sliding over one another. The panels slide over adjacent metal tracks placed along the outer framework of the closet. These panels save the maximum floor utility space when compared to the other two panels. But, the panels of such custom closet design have a certain drawback in not being fully open even when open. Even when the doors are fully open the closet is only half open since both panels slide to a side. Bypass panels are a feasible storage option in wider closet system designs, like the clothes wardrobe.

Bifold panels are a combination of multifold panels and bypass panels. It is actually a multifold with two panels like a by-pass. This combination of the designs enables the bifold closet doors to gather the best features of the other two types of sliding closet doors. Although, a closet system design with bifold panels take up a little more opening space than the other two types, yet the space used is much less than that of the hinged doors.

Sliding closet doors come with an additional advantage. They are one of the easiest do-it-yourself home improvement idea. DIY kits with pre assembled panels and the accessories are readily available in any home improvement store. The DIY feature enables the sliding closet doors to be even more cost-effective because of the savings in the installation money.

Sliding Screen Doors to Your Patio

If you have a patio entry leading from your home onto a deck or outdoor porch, sliding screen doors may allow you to enjoy the outdoors more often. There are many benefits to adding such an item to the area and products are relatively inexpensive to add. They are also fairly simple to install.

bypass sliding closet doors

One benefit of having such an item is the circulation of fresh air into your home that you can gain by having one of the sliding glass doors open. Sliding screen doors allow breezes to flow through and can help make living areas more comfortable in warmer weather. If you enjoy having parties on the deck, adding this item makes it easier to take food items out or to serve guests and still not miss out on conversations.
Using sliding screen doors helps keep out unwanted pests, such as flies, bees and moths. Not only can you watch the birds at the feeder from indoors, but also you can hear them as well, when this type of closure is installed. You can hear the owls and crickets in the evening. Having such an item in place will keep pets where they belong, while allowing them the ability to investigate the outdoors.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS

Prices for sliding screen doors can vary, but even those of the highest quality can be found for less than 5. Some products come as complete kits, with the track rollers and all the hardware required for installation. Others come with the door and handle, while the hardware must be selected separately. If you are purchasing the product without the hardware, expect to pay around for the product itself. If you need some assistance in understanding how to install the item within the sliding patio doors, going to a home improvement center may be the best option, as there are people who can help you get all the pieces together and provide advice on installation.

There are many different grades or qualities of such items. You can still find the traditional aluminum, though the newer materials are made of a durable plastic and will come in a plastic frame. The benefit of this is that you can find the product that best matches your needs. Many color options include white, steel, beige or black. This allows you to coordinate the products with the existing entry. If you like the idea of having a kit, there are many online stores that offer a wide selection of products.

Folding Sliding Doors

The huge growth in demand for folding sliding doors over the last two or three years has led to a rapid increase in the choice of door systems available for the consumer. Also referred to as bi fold doors, bi folding doors, multi fold doors and concertina doors they are best known as folding sliding doors because of the opening action itself. This type of door can provide unobstructed openings of up to 6 metres and sometime more as the panels simply fold, slide and stack neatly to one side or both sides of the aperture.

sliding closet doors mirror

Folding sliding doors are an ideal replacement for existing French or sliding patio doors where they can literally transform the existing opening and open up the room to the outside. This type of bi folding door is now becoming the most sought after door style for new build and home extensions whilst also proving a popular upgrade choice for homeowners adding a conservatory to their property due to their ability to seamlessly merge the new conservatory with the garden effectively bringing the outside inside.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS

Although the original concept of a folding sliding door dates back over 100 years where they were often used for closing off small storage areas today's folding sliding doors are designed to be high performance energy efficient patio doors using the latest innovative insulation features in both door and glazing construction.

Folding sliding doors not only allow wider unobstructed apertures but the increased glass area allows huge flows of natural light to enter the home from the outside which during the colder months will provide efficient use of solar gain to minimise heating costs. Doors are available in a choice of materials including timber, aluminium and PVC-u together with a choice of colours and finishes that will enhance any home.

TIMBER

You can choose from a number of engineered timber folding sliding doors including softwood or hardwoods such as Meranti and European Oak. Timber is normally engineered or laminated to ensure it is structurally resistant to warping or twisting and doors are normally available with either a factory applied translucent stain or RAL colour paint finish.

As timber is a natural insulator timber folding sliding doors offer the most energy efficient solution when combined with high performance double glazing offering U values as low as 1.4.

Timber folding doors usually provide slim sight lines as the individual door panels are normally hinged off each other without the use of additional mullions between each panel and therefore maximising visible glass areas.

Timber is a natural sustainable material that is very energy efficient but will require regular maintenance over the life time of the door to maintain their stain or paint finish.

ALUMINIUM

Aluminium folding sliding doors are normally manufactured from durable, strong thermally broken aluminium profiles that have specifically been designed for the purpose. These systems have been in use for several years in both domestic and commercial installations such as restaurants and hotels.

Most systems utilise bottom rolling gear so all the weight is carried at the bottom with guide rollers at the top and panels are often connected to sliding and floating mullions which help ensure the door operates smoothly and effortlessly.

Aluminum is a popular choice for this type of folding door as it is virtually maintenance free, hard wearing and good looking. Aluminum folding sliding doors are available in over 200 different RAL paint finishes which can usually be specified in your choice of matt, silk or gloss finish. It is also possible to specify dual colours with a different colour internally and externally.

UPVC

Also referred to as plastic or PVC-u folding sliding doors this type of door is relatively new in the market place when compared to aluminum or timber. Due to its comparative low cost uPVC door manufacturers have quickly adapted their existing uPVC door profiles to create bi folding doors in response to an increasingly growing market that required a more affordable folding door system. uPVC folding sliding doors can be substantially cheaper than their aluminum or timber counterparts but there is often a trade-off in design elements that can sometimes compromise the quality of the product.

Adapting bulky wide uPVC steel reinforced profiles that were originally designed for traditional hinged external doors meant glass sight lines were considerably reduced and the doors used ugly face fixed hinges and exposed gearing which also sometimes posed a security hazard.

However, some manufacturers have started to introduce the next generation of uPVC folding doors using slimmer profiles and concealed gearing that compare favourably with those of timber and aluminium. Heavy steel profile reinforcement is starting to be replaced by lighter yet stronger recycled composite material that is also much more energy efficient.

What Are Bypass Doors?

Many people are unaware of what bypass doors are. They are doors that open by passing one in front of the other or one behind the other. They hang in a staggered line and usually have only one track. They are sliding doors that can be used in the bedroom for a closet or on a wardrobe. You will also find many shower doors that are bypass as well. These can have a modern look with a contemporary appeal. Some of them can even be found on sheds. For the most part they are intended for interior use because they are not great for keeping out the cold or heat.

sliding closet doors hardware

Bypass doors have space saving features that allow you access to a room without having to move furniture to open it. The newest version offers a smooth gliding track that is much quieter than older versions. This is because they ride in a track and not simply along a track. Many are guaranteed not to jump the track and become twisted. This type can be framed or frameless, mirrored, wood or glass. You have a large variety to choose from when selecting your favorite.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS

They are a very modern and timeless design. They are perfect for a built in wardrobe because they allow you access to both sides of the wardrobe.

Prices of bypass doors will greatly depend on several variants. The size of you need will have an affect on the prices as well as the materials used in their construction. Custom bypass doors are naturally more expensive because they must meet the exact dimensions. Most of the custom doors are hand made or made to order. Local retailers can assist you with ordering in your area as well as making sure you have taken the proper measurements. Since they must fit to a given measurement, it is important to make sure the measurements are correct as well as being precise.

Most bypass doors are for interior use although you can find them on many sheds. The most common use for them is on shower and closet doors. If you are unsure of the doors that are right for your needs, contact any of your local retailers to get recommendations from them. Why Choose Vinyl Sliding Doors

Vinyl sliding doors are among the most popular types of doors that are used in most households today. This is because they are easy to install, sturdy, and cheaper compared to other types of sliding doors available out there.

sliding closet doors

To be able to find the best door for you, here are some of the characteristics that you should consider before finally buying one.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS

1. Check the commercial rating. One of the easiest ways to determine if the door is of quality of not is through its commercial ratings. If the product has passed any commercial rating, it's possible that it is durable enough to last for a long period of time.

2. Test its endurance. One of the ultimate tests for the doors is that it should be durable enough to endure the test of weather and times. Quality doors should not absorb moisture responsible for cracking, peeling, or warping.

3. It should be functional. Aside from testing its strength and endurance, the doors should be functional enough to suit your housing needs. Make sure that before you leave the hardware store that you tried on the function of the product to avoid any hassles in the future.

4. Its profile should be thick as well as the frame. This is significant because it will determine its strength and will also add up to its conventional look.

5. It should be easy to install and to operate. This is very important especially for neophytes because it lessens the possibility of damaging the product as well as the house. These qualities also save up money because you don't have to hire a professional to do the installation and onset operation for you.

6. The doors should be constructed with solid and high quality materials. This is to ensure that the product will be durable enough for long time use and should be reinforced double braced aluminum so it will be heavy-duty.

7. They should have welded sash corners. This is to give utmost endurance and stability to test different kinds of weather.

8. It should have excellent wedging interlocks to seal the panels. This will ensure that it will keep the chill during winter and the heat during summer.

9. The door should have keyed, dual-point locks and security bolts to ensure the safety of the user. Through this, it will keep the intruders and possible thieves away from the house.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS

Louvered Closet Doors Come in Different Styles

Some closets simply need air circulation due to their contents. A shoe closet must have air circulation in order to keep down odors. Pantries need air circulation due to fresh vegetables that are kept in them. Louvered closet doors make this possible because of their design. They are designed to allow air to flow through the louvers. These are slats of wood or metal that is inserted into a frame.

sliding closet doors for bedrooms

There are different styles of louvered closet doors including cafe, saloon and plantation. The cafe types are great for a laundry room or between a dining room and a kitchen because they are usually only about twenty-four inches long. Saloon style doors are also short with a western style to them. Plantation doors are perfect for almost any closet in your home because they extend from the top of the doorway to the floor.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS FOR BEDROOMS

The most common type of louvered doors is wood. Pine is the most common type of wood used for them because it is a hardwood and is resistant to bug infestation. Pine doors can be purchased unfinished so you can stain or paint them to match your other decor. Although they do use other types of wood such as oak, cherry and mahogany, if you purchase unfinished ones you can stain them with an oak, cherry or mahogany stain and they will look just like that wood.

Prices vary depending on the size of the doors, the materials used and whether they are finished or unfinished. Of course prices of unfinished doors are cheaper than those of finished ones. You should check with local retailers to compare prices and what is readily available.

Some closets require sliding doors. Louvered closet doors can be found in the sliding variety but only one side will slide. These are called bifold doors. One side remains stationary while hinged to another panel which slides to open and close the door. This does not always require two tracks for the doors to ride in. This type of closet door is called a hanging sliding door or top hung door. These are great for a bedroom closet where a bottom track could be tripped on or in a utility room.

Although a utility room or linen closet is the most common place for louvered closet doors, they can also be used in a bedroom. They are sleek enough to be used on a narrow door jamb while they still provide the privacy you want your closet door to give you. A wardrobe is another good place to use these doors. While many wardrobe doors are solid, you can use the louvered variety as a replacement. A double set would fit a wide opening like a wardrobe.

Even though louvered closet doors are available at most home and building supply stores, you should check with your local retailers to see what is most common in your area and what is most commonly stocked. Some areas may not carry all styles and designs.

Painting Bifold Closet Doors Brings New Life to Them

Every few years I begin the process of "nesting". This happens when I am ready for another child and all of my energies are focused on how to put a fresh look on something older. My husband and I are expecting our fourth child and we want to redecorate the nursery by putting on Bifold closet doors, among other things.

white sliding closet doors

I am fairly handy with tools and a paintbrush so I was able to take the closet doors down and prepare them for a new coat of paint. Having a baby means having lots of essentials on hand such as diapers, wipes, crib bedding etc...Having a built-in closet with Bifold closet doors makes it a lot easier to see everything at a glance. It's also a lot easier to arrange the closet space in more functional ways.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS

Back to the painting! The nursery was painted in earth tones. I wanted more pastels in the color range of violet, lilac, and lavender schemes. I painted the Bifold closet doors in colors that were one shade darker. When doing this, one always runs the risk of having the closet doors be the center of attention. That didn't happen in this case. Instead, the doors took on a textured appearance, and they seemed to bring all of the aspects of the room together.

There are many styles of Bifold closet doors. The ones in our home are the raised panel type. This style of door allows for more creative options when painting them. Between the raised areas of the doors, I was able to apply some stenciling. This helped to create a theme for the nursery. This time around, it is Winnie-The-Pooh.

Our nursery has been used on three different occasions, and soon it will make four. The doors in the room are the originals we bought eleven years ago. They have never fallen off their track, nor have they come apart through too much use. If a new coat of paint can give them extended years in our home, then it sounds like a good plan to me.

Interior Doors

Whether you are building a new home, or simply renovating what you have now, it's important that you get the right interior doors for your home. Too many times people will simply get whatever's cheapest instead of purchasing doors that accent the overall design of the house. Having the best possible interior doors will also raise the value of your home. There are various door styles to choose from including: raised panel, flat panel, French, bifold, mirrored doors, V-Groove doors, pantry & laundry doors, custom glass, Dutch, and café. With all of these styles to choose from, there is no reason to stick with boring, flat doors.

interior sliding closet doors

Raised panel doors are an American classic which seek to reproduce different periods of the country's history. Colonial 8 panel doors for example, were popular during the colonial era. The 6 panel doors on the other hand were popular during the 18th and 19th centuries. Try to find the type of door which best suits the design of your home. There are also flat panel door designs which aren't quite as plain as standard flat doors. They feature a simpler look with larger panels. For a particularly fancy look, go for the French interior door style. This style of door can be classified as the following: French doors with wood mullions, French doors with beveled glass, French doors with grooved glass, bifold French doors with clear tempered glass, and bifold French doors with beveled glass.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS

Bifold doors are used for pantries, closets, and even folding doors between rooms. The thing that sets bifold doors apart from the others is the fact that they are always in pairs. This can be achieved with 2 doors folding to one side, or with 4 doors split in the center and folding back to each side. Mirrored doors are available as standard and customs sizes and made out of various kinds of wood. One or both sides of a mirrored door will feature a mirror made with safety glass. This style of door is great for your bathrooms and bedrooms.

V-groove doors are made of solid hardwood usually presented in square tile and rail Kinsmen style. Interior doors also are available for laundry and pantry rooms. They offer some fancy designs with frosted glass which allows light into the rooms, but allows only minimum visibility. Dutch doors are another popular form of interior door which are divided into half with a separate door both above and below. These doors are very elegant and feature a variety of uses. It is common for the top door to remain open and the bottom door will sometimes have a shelf. These doors were first invented in the Netherlands in the 17th century. They became popular in the United States and were often used as outside doors. As neighborhoods became less safe they ceased being used outside as often. At this point they are mostly used as interior doors. Hopefully you have gained some better insight on the many different types of interior doors available.

A Portable Closet Unit Can Help Solve Storage Space Issues

Last year, I purchased a lovely home. It is an old, New England structure. The rooms are large and the closets were designed by someone who owned three different outfits at one time! When I was a little girl, my parents rented a house that had these same unique structures. As my feet grew and so, the size of my shoes, I had to stick my shoes under the bed because the depth of the closet was too narrow. That was all fine and good as a child, but not now. I have way too much clothes and too many pair of shoes for this arrangement to be functional. In time, I will have new closets built but right now, funds are at a premium and I need another solution, even though it will be temporary. A friend told me about Portable closet units that could be found at any hardware store or large chain stores.

sliding closet doors

It became clear to me that the only useful strategy would be to use one of the extra rooms in my house as a place to store my clothing and accessories. I took the needed measurements of the room and brought them with me to the hardware store. I found some design ideas that would incorporate Portable closet units as part of a larger plan. These larger units included drawer space, shoe racks, organizing tubs, etc... This seemed the best and most comprehensive approach to my problem.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS

The structural framework was made of heavy metal wire which had been coated in some form of vinyl. This resulted in a very sturdy structure and one that could bear a great deal of weight. For extra security, I decided to secure the metal structure to the wall studs. I figure that it's better to be safe than sorry. Having a Portable closet has worked out well for me. It has worked out so well that I am going to have an actual closet built around the dimensions of the one I have already set up, in the guest room. If this turns out as well as expected, then I will focus on having one built in my bedroom for next year. Sometimes, the best way to go about something is backwards!

Accordion Doors For the Closet

Replacing old wood doors in the home with accordion ones can add as much as ,500 to the home's total equity when appraised, depending on the number of doors that underwent replacement. For a modern or more contemporary appearance to closets, interior rooms or even interior corners, you can opt for accordion doors. For children who share a room, a way to divide the room up for privacy would include an elongated accordion door. This would serve as a way to divide the room up, but also can be opened up completely for a large room to share.

sliding closet door bottom guide

Many schools have used a form of them for years to divide classrooms up to share space. Contemporary businesses and homeowners as well as modern interior designers are using them to add a new level of style and comfort to otherwise plain rooms. Without spending a lot of money, a homeowner would be able to have the shutter like variety installed into many rooms of the home for less money than you would spend to outfit the whole home in new wood doors.

SLIDING CLOSET

These come in a variety of options including glass, wood, paper and plastics. Designs for these also vary, as many retailers will have different versions of the same shutter doors. Remember that it is imperative to have the correct dimensions for the doorway, or the accordion doors could fall short. Since the average doorway has an open width of 36 inches, a wooden door has to have an area to open into. Accordion doors simply fold in on themselves and when open will take up only about 3 inches of space when compacted. Dimensions for these will vary, as they can be purchased custom made for any length whatsoever. Glass accordion doors are not seen as often as wood panel or plastic doors, as the tracks for the top and bottom of the accordion doors generally do not hold much weight. However, when custom made, the accordion doors can hold glass as well as all other materials with no problems.

Contemporary interior design is creating the need for more accordion doors, as people tend to want to use more of the space in their homes instead of allowing the dimensions of a doorway to simply go unused. Replacement of wood doors with accordion or shutter doors will not only add value to the home, but allows the resident to be able to open the door without fear of doing damage to the wall if opened too hard, losing a doorknob if pulled too swiftly or even coming off the hinges because it is locked. With accordion doors, the tracks can easily be set so that there is a lock on either end, and if one end is locked, you can reach the other side by entering at the opposite end. These doors provide security as well as safety, as when glass doors are used, a child in another room can easily be watched without leaving the door open. Safety and peace of mind can be found in accordion doors.

How To Find the Best Makers of Pocket Sliding Glass Doors

When pocket sliding glass doors are made from quality materials and workmanship, and the installation has been done according to the manufacturer's recommendations, the result is beautiful doors that not only enhance the appearance of the space but also doors that provide easy function. Whether used as a divider, closet doors, for a wardrobe, on an armoire, or something else, once the doors are installed using the right tracks, they would slide effortlessly from one side to the other.

sliding closet doors for bedrooms

If you were to conduct online research, you would quickly discover that a number of different systems exist for doors of this type but unfortunately not all are created equal. If you want doors that look great for a home remodel project, a new home build, or simply as a replacement for other doors that are outdated or nonfunctioning, pocket doors are an ideal solution. However, it is essential that you purchase the doors from a reputable manufacturer so you would have peace of mind and a guarantee of the doors working exactly as anticipated.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS FOR BEDROOMS

This type of door has changed dramatically over the years. During the 1970s and 1980s, doors were thin and made of wood. Although they served their purpose, they also did nothing for aesthetics. Today, you would be amazed that along with glass being used, many of the styles and designs of pocket doors are gorgeous. If you preferred an understated look yet one of elegance, you might consider transparent glass designed with engraved lines and a frosted background. Designed as a system consisting of a single curved door, the tempered glass and brushed stainless steel hardware complement one another.

Another popular trend for today's pocket sliding glass doors is colored glass. Of course, the color chosen would depend on the look you want to achieve. For instance, for a feminine bedroom, you might consider pink glass on a single curved door that floats in tempered glass coupled with transparent glass knobs. If you prefer something a little more dramatic, transparent glass featuring engraved and painted lines along with a frosted background would create a unique visual effect in the room. With this, the sliding door would overlap onto fixed panels giving the impression of light floating within the tempered glass. To complete the look, you might consider handles of brushed stainless steel.

Where to Find Acrylic Closet Doors?

Not many people think of acrylic closet doors when they decide to replace their present doors. Acrylic doors mean that they are safer than glass doors because if they break there is no shattering or splintering of the glass. These include translucent plastic and plexiglass both with and without frames. They come in a variety of designs such as frosted glass, bifold, accordion and bypass as well as folding. Most of the framed models are framed in wood with some being unfinished so you can stain or paint them to match your present decor.

white sliding closet doors

These doors are modern in their style, yet provide you with a contemporary appearance that will blend into any decor. They are perfect for a bedroom closet, wardrobe and other interior doors that you want to give a facelift to. There are a number of manufacturers. They are easy to make and are affordable for almost any budget. The reason acrylic is used in many of these doors is because it is affordable. It costs the manufacturers less to make the translucent plastics, plexiglass and even PVC so those savings are passed on to the customers.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS

If you are looking for a replacement door for a child's closet, acrylic closet doors are the perfect solution. Some kids hide in their closets. With acrylic closet doors you will be able to see them and if the glass gets broken, you don't have to worry about your child getting injured and it is easy to replace it. This is both economical and smart because it also allows light to filter through the glass. A lot of the acrylic glass that goes in these doors is either frosted or textured making it difficult to see through. This prevents visitors from snooping around while allowing some light to filter through the glass.

Since most of these doors are not able to be trimmed, it is important that you take accurate dimensions of the doorway they will cover. Measure down both jambs measuring from top to bottom. They may not be the same and that is fine. Next measure across the top of the doorway from one jamb to the other and then across the bottom in the same manner. It doesn't matter if these are not identical to each other because some of these doors are adjustable and will adjust up to a half inch one way or another.

Prices of acrylic closet doors will vary depending on the sizes, materials used and designs chosen. For instance, frameless doors are less expensive than doors with a solid wood frame so take that into consideration when deciding on which doors to use for your closet. These doors are available at the majority of retailers across the country. In fact you are more likely to find acrylic closet doors today than real glass. If you are unsure whether retailers in your area carry acrylic doors, check with them before making the trip. Chances are you will find a large variety in your own back yard.

On the other hand, if you want your closet to be more than just storage for your clothing and other items, there are several design technicalities you will need to understand. Here are a few of closet design ideas that will help you come up with a unique closet.

sliding closet doors

The first and probably the most common thing is that you may opt to have mirrors fixed on your closet. These mirrors may be fixed on both or either doors. It follows therefore that the placement of the closet becomes essential because you definitely need some space in front of the closet for dressing as well as for looking in from the distance. Another way you can make your closet unique is by adding an iron board to the closet. In fact, it is possible to have a wide swivel board attached to the shelves since it will allow you keep the doors of the closet closed while ironing the clothes.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS

Another idea worth considering is whether or not to add internal lighting to the closet. You might decide to make other outlandish installations such as Television set that can be watched while dressing or even music system to the closet framework. To accomplish this, you can have open shelves on either sides or at the center of the closet thus dividing the closet. One of the best closet ides is to have open shelves on both sides to place decorative items such as books among other things.

Proper closet shelving is one of the best closet design ideas. With right sections you will keep your stuff well organized, easy to find and looks great. One of the best closet design ideas is to have separate sections for casual and formal clothing. Placing bottom and tops distinctly within casual or formal sections is another essential feature. Your closet should also have sections for small accessories, extra luggage, shawls, sweaters, bags and purses, folded iron clothing and seasonal clothing. You may arrange the drawers at the center and equal shelves and hanger spaces on each side for great appearances.

One of the greatest closet design ideas is by enhancing the exteriors of the closet to give it an appealing look. You might use laminates to match the other room décor. Installing sliding doors is a smart closet design idea that helps minimize the space wasted when the doors are opened. Finally, fancy door handles, drawer knobs and handles are other closet design ideas worth consideration.

When you're searching for a new wardrobe or just want to change the look of an existing one, choosing the right doors can be a tough decision. Do you want traditional hinged or sliding doors? Which is better for your particular room? Wardrobe sliding doors and hinged have their advantages and disadvantages. Weigh the options carefully and you will be able to settle on the perfect type for you.

Hinged wardrobe doors do not have to be ordinary. Many homes today are furnished with hinged doors that are traditional in style. They are either raised panel or flat, stained or painted. By simply changing the stain or painting them, you can transform the doors. You can add mirrors or install raised panel doors in place of flat to add dimension.

SLIDING CLOSET DOORS FOR BEDROOMS

In contrast to hinged doors, wardrobe sliding doors are apt to be more contemporary in style. If contemporary is not your style, there are a variety of other styles available. You can choose raised panel wood, flat panel, steel or mirrored. Every day, more and more innovate designs are being brought onto the market. There are split panel, vinyl, opaque glass, fabric and even leather sliding doors.

Replacing hinged wardrobe doors is relatively easy. They require little effort but ensure that you take accurate measurements so they are level. Make sure they are securely in place. Wardrobe sliding doors do not prove too hard to replace either. Just ensure that they are hung level for longevity and ease of sliding on the tracks. With so many door styles available, you may want to replace them for a room update.

The disadvantage of hinged doors is that they open outward and require adequate clearance. On the upside of this, they open to expose the entire contents of your wardrobe. Conversely, wardrobe sliding doors require no additional clearance. The disadvantage is that you cannot view the overall wardrobe contents unless you have installed pocket doors, which slide into the wall out of sight.

Over time or if not installed properly, wardrobe sliding doors can come off track. It is a good idea to check them periodically for levelness and to ensure that the tracks are clean of dust and debris. Hinged doors can settle over time and drag or the hinge pins may become displaced. Check the hinges occasionally to eliminate any problems.

When searching for a new wardrobe or new doors for an existing one, take careful measurements, evaluate the space you have available and consider the styles that appeal to you. Think about the functionality of each option and enjoy your search for the perfect doors. Whether you choose traditional hinged or wardrobe sliding doors, they can give your room quite a transformation.

If you opt for the type with drawers and you intend to use them for small things like socks or even thong undies then you need to get the type that have the wires close together to prevent the items from slipping through them.

As far as the actual systems go, there are basically two types of storage systems. The first type is the kind that attaches a track to the wall and you then place the wire shelves or baskets at different locations on the track. These are very easy to adjust and customize for anyone. This type of system also reduces the amount of cutting and drilling that one must do.

The second style of wire closet storage kit actually attaches each portion of the system to the wall which is done with anchors, screws, clips, and braces. These accessories will be available at the same locations as the systems themselves.

Wire closet storage systems will help you to organize all of your clutter and make it seem as if you have a lot more room. There is no need to wait or put this off, get organized now by investing in one of these systems.

Accordion style doors are generally made of wood and literally fold up like an accordion. The most common woods that are used for these doors are mahogany and pine. They are made up of small strips of wood that are attached to one another so rarely do they break. This type of closet door rides on a centralized track and can have locks added to them to keep children out of areas they aren't supposed to be in. The prices of these bifold closet doors vary depending on the size and the materials used in their construction.

Another popular type of interior bifold closet door is the louvered type. These are vented and allow the closet to breathe so they make the perfect doors for a furnace or water heater closet. These are also great for utility rooms and linen closets. Louvered bifold doors are generally made of wood although some can be purchase in polymers and metal materials. These are more of a modern style and can help add to the décor of your home by painting them to match your walls or other furnishings. Louvered doors generally cost less than other forms of bifold doors.

Most all bifold doors including mirrored doors are fully adjustable so you can get the perfect fit to your doorway. If you have your doors custom made, they will be a more precise fit and the dimensions will match almost perfectly. The track at the top of the bifold doors is what makes them adjustable in width. Length must still be as accurate as possible. Locks are also available for these doors as well as the mirrored and glass doors. These locks slip over the top of one panel when they are open. Once they are closed, the lock slides over both panels at the hinge to lock the doors closed.

Local retailers can assist you in choosing your glass or mirrored closet doors as well as louvered ones. Whether you choose a contemporary style like mirrored bifold closet doors or a modern style, such as louvered ones you will be happy you chose bifold. Wooden louvered doors are available in mahogany, oak, pine and many other woods. Custom made bifold door prices are more expensive and the dimensions will be more precise than if you purchased them from local retailers.
