Glass Types in Custom Closet Doors

Sometimes, I amuse myself. Take the thought of "doors" for example. Everybody has them in their homes and places of business. They serve several functions for people. They offer privacy, security, and boundaries between people. They provide for heat retention in the cold months of the year. They provide for a more quiet space for those wishing this. Doors have been around for a long time, and they are found in all cultures throughout the world. I am especially interested in Custom closet doors that are made from glass as one of the materials used.

Glass is an art form all by itself. It too has an old history and it's uses have involved the religious and sacred. As it relates to custom doors, there are several types of glass that can be used, depending upon the effect you want to achieve through their use. There is clear glass, frosted glass, laminated glass, mirrored glass, linen glass and others. Each type of glass has benefits specific to it.

For example, linen glass is the newest form on the market today. It provides the impression of woven textures. This allows for privacy but with no reduction in the amount of light passing through it. Frosted glass is the most popular type ordered for Custom closet doors. This glass allows light to pass through it but only a 6 inch clarity of objects can be seen through the glass. Beyond 6 inches, visual clarity is blurred.

The last points to be made about the use of glass in Custom closet doors is the thickness of the glass. Many companies use plastic instead of glass, and I find this unacceptable. if I wanted plastic, I wouldn't bother to pay the cost of a custom made door! Insist on a thickness of 5mm for any tempered glass and 7mm for laminated safety glass. Also, be sure to discuss the ability of the framework to withstand the weight of the glass doors. Sounds silly, but I have seen frameworks fail more than once. It's not safe if the doors are too heavy for the framework. Should you have any reservations about this, get more information and ask questions until you are satisfied with the answers.
